Thermochromic pucks have changed the game of hockey.
PPG teamed with technology partners LCR Hallcrest and QCR Solutions to create a technology the National Hockey League® had never seen — a thermochromic coating that changes from purple to white when the puck becomes too warm (above 28 degrees Fahrenheit.) NHL officials used to base the puck temperature on how cold the puck felt. Now, officials will be able to remove pucks at a consistent and correct time from the ice, without the potential negative impact of too much bouncing. This coating is used for all NHL game pucks- which is over 60,000 pucks per NHL season!
